Considered the Father of Modern Dentistry, Pierre Fauchard published the pivotal book “The Surgeon Dentist, a Treatise on Teeth”, which is credited as the first guide providing a comprehensive perspective on dental care and treatment. Fauchard is also credited with identifying how acids and sugars can lead to tooth decay and introducing the concepts behind dental fillings and dental prosthesis.

The 19th century was a particularly robust time for rapid advancement in dentistry. During this century in the United States milestones include the establishment of the first dental college (Baltimore College of Dentistry), dental practice and Colgate’s first mass production of toothpaste and toothbrushes.

Fast forwarding to the 21st century, the amount dental practitioners, diversity of specialties and treatment options available to clients have greatly expanded.
